How to Repurpose Twitter Videos and GIFs for Instagram

Creators often save their own Twitter or X media so they can reuse it on Instagram, TikTok, YouTube Shorts, newsletters, or portfolios.

Before republishing, check the platform format, crop, captions, and audio needs. MP4 files are usually easier to edit and upload than traditional GIF files.

Start with the highest quality file available, then create platform-specific edits. Vertical platforms may need a 9:16 crop, while feed posts may need square or portrait framing.

Add captions when the original media depends on sound, and keep any creator credit visible if the file is used with permission from someone else.

For brand accounts, keep a simple archive of original post URLs, download dates, and permission notes. This makes future reuse easier to review.

Only repurpose media you own or have permission to use. Give attribution where appropriate and avoid reposting another creator's content without consent.
